"I live in Canada, and it's COLD. But, even in the winter I'm constantly going back to my shorts ( & tights, I'm not that wild!?) combo. I think I'm just trying to hold onto summer in whatever way I can. It's hard to pick just one piece though, as I have been wearing this combination as my "uniform" a lot this winter : Tights + Shorts + button-up Shirt."

I find it so interesting how different everyone's creative processes are - I have really enjoyed working so closely with Moxee because she has opened my eyes up to new and fun ways to approach freelance projects and my business in general. I wanted to share some of my recent mood boards that I made for clients* I always like to start off with an inspiration swap to make sure we are both on the same page visually and color wise. I am going to try and start sharing more of my design work and the process with you guys = promise!

So this past weekend, me and my roommate decided to bust out our green thumbs and get some planting done!! It was pretty hilarious trying to move a baby cactus from one pot to another. I love how different the vegetation is in California compared to anywhere else I have lived - so dry + arid!! I could stare at these pictures for ever.

So this weekend was a home improvement weekend. Even though we made very little progress, I still feel like what we did do made a HUGE difference!! I think one of my favorite additions was our outdoor patio lights - they added such a nice glow and made the space a bit more inviting. I got new book shelves and had a ton of fun getting those set up and decorated!! We have also started a tradition with a few new friends called Sunday Supper. I think you get the point - we eat dinner together on Sundays. This Sunday we did mini make-your-own-pizzas* MMmmmm.

Hey Guys, so it's done. I made a little video of my TX to CA move. Warning : it's nothing special but I thought I would still share* My friend Sarah Yeargan helped me do the drive - it took us a couple of days and lots of fun was had. I'm not sure what I would have done without her company - that's what friends are for right?? Enjoy.

Introducing a very very good friend of mine - Matt Gray!! We have known each other for a very long time so I can't tell you how exited I am to have him as a Gentle-man. He actually helped me come up with the name for the guy-addition to this feature ( Thanks Matt ). A bit about him - He is currently finishing up his thesis on american luxury to get his MFA in Furniture Design. He's been casting plastic, picking locks, and looking for jobs! His most recent & exciting venture is a trip to Salon Del Mobile in Milan (the Milan furniture fair) to show work!!

I have decided that work spaces are CRUCIAL to how well we function - not a big surprise huh?!! Although, I am the kind of person that has to experience something to truly understand how it immediately effects me - this past week has been one big-fat realization. I need to get OUT OF MY HOUSE - and be around people. It's official. I think that moving into a shared studio space was probably one of the better decisions I have made in a long time. There is no doubt in my mind that only good will come from this* Not only are the people ill be surrounded by incredibly talented and inspiring but the space is equally as wonderful. Cheers to a more productive and healthier work life.

This is hands down my favorite spread in the new January Issue of RUE Magazine. Brian Paquette, a Seattle based designer, turns his tiny space into a nostalgic home & office! In the interview, he said "living in a small spaces teaches you to purge what you don't use." I am 100% going through the purging process right now and absolutely love it. It is very clear that Paquette has an affinity for nostalgia and completely surrounds himself with what he loves. I wish I was more intentional with the THINGS I surround myself with - a new challenge? I think so.

Sometimes it happens - you get overwhelmed in a really good way! That is currently what's going on RIGHT NOW with me in Los Angeles. I am happily overwhelmed. I am being confronted with so many wonderful new things that I am having a hard time taking it all in and processing it how I'd like. I think it's fair to say I feel a bit topsy-turvy like this little lady above.

I'm not going to lie - Over the last few months, when people asked me where I was moving... I was slightly embarrassed to say LA. I am not sure why. I had only been here a handful of times so I didn't have a good grasp of the city by any means. I guess I just never expected myself to live here... I sure do love it when assumptions are shattered and a new perspective is shoved in your face! Bring it ON***

Happy Monday. So I want to apologize about being so lame with my bloggity blog lately. Turns out moving takes a lot more effort than I remember - especially when you have no furniture, fridge, or internet, haha. I kind of like it - it's almost like a really nice indoor version of camping!!

I will officially be going back to work today! I am moving into my new shared studio space later this afternoon - i'll have to give you guys a tour once I get it set up and pretty. For now, I'll leave you with a purdy picture of my blank walls!! I absolutely love that I have a clean + fresh slate to work with!!

"This Schott leather jacket was a recent acquisition for fall (from eBay, of course), and it's easily my favorite piece of outerwear. One of my favorite pieces of clothing in my wardrobe, for that matter. Wearing a leather jacket is unlike anything else, and I had been interested in grabbing one for a while. Scored pretty big on this vintage Schott for well under a hundred bucks. Christmas came early."

Hey Guys! I just wanted to check in and tell you a tiny bit about how the trip is going so far. Me & my good friend Sarah decided to go a tiny bit out of our way to spend an evening in Marfa, Texas. It was SO worth it - I wish we could have had more time there. Our favorite part of the Marfa stop : the quaint lodging ground we stayed at called El Cosmico. There are vintage trailers, teepees, yurts, hammocks, camping grounds, a really nice and young staff, etc etc. Needless to say, we had a blast!! More to come!!

"My wife Katie and I recently relocated to the Oregon coast, just outside Portland. We moved here to work more closely with the creative community that has been contributing to the magazine, and to focus on Kinfolk as our main project. I studied Economics and Peace building in school, so the publishing and design world is new to me but I'm loving it. I've blogged over at hearblack for awhile, although it's
been pretty quiet lately. Katie and I met while we were both going to school in Hawaii for the last 4 years, and the idea for Kinfolk came up in conversation with a few friends there and we've been working on it since."

"Hands down, this is my uniform. Anyone who knows me could easily describe those clothes because I wear them all the time. The sweater is a favorite because I've had it for years. It's unraveling at the wrists but I refuse to throw it away."

I always justify it by looking at how wildly productive my year has been - NOT okay... This is something that I am going to focus on improving BIG TIME in 2012. Introducing... The adorable Rodellee Bas ( look at that smile! ) of Adore Vintage. She is quite passionate about vintage, history, and all things pretty. She runs a small online vintage shop and is currently working on other vintage related side projects with a couple friends (expanding to weddings and industrial home decor...) By day, she is an e-commerce director for a small fashion brand in downtown LA and by night she dons her vintage shopkeeper hat. Occasionally on weekends, she gets to dress up pretty girls in pretty clothes as a wardrobe stylist for fashion shoots. Someday soon, she wants to open her own vintage lifestyle shop, but right now her plate is pretty full (in a terrific way)!!

Hello folks, my name is Bre ... AKA Emma's BIZ partner from Our Paper Shop!! I'm here today to share cozy little gathering ideas with you all. At this point in the year, most of us (myself included) are completely busy with work, gifting, and the usual end of the year business. But do you know what?? I think we all need a little something to slow things down a bit, even if it's only for a few hours, and enjoy ourselves. How about an evening dinner party with your closest friends and family?

Now, if I told you to go plan this elaborate party, I wouldn't be helping you relax, would I? So don't go all out. Go casual! Tell your friends to bring over a few things, like hot chocolate and vanilla cheesecake ... you'll be good to go! Gather around your fireplace (cozy!!), share stories, sip on some wine, chow down on treats, and exchange some gifts! Just being in the company of good people will help make your night a complete success for sure.

And if you're stuck on what to get your buddies for the holiday, monogram it up!! Everyone loves stuff with their initials on it, right?? Introducing... The lovely Erin Loechner!! Not only does she have a cute dog but she is : a design blogger over at Design for Mankind & an online personality for HGTV.com! You guys should really go check out what she's working on - she has such a wonderful eye.

What she has to say about it : "There's always something new and exciting in the works, but I generally can't share it until it's released!! For now, we're really enjoying finishing the renovation home that we purchased two years ago - we're in the home stretch and can't wait to retire the hammers for a bit!"

"This is every bit of my daily uniform: something sparkly, something striped, something scarfed and my husband's jeans. Forever comfortable! Long story short, I totally can't pick which piece is my favorite b/c they all get so much play in my closet. Although, if forced to choose, I'd probably crown my Uniform Natural scarf as #1. I own like 6 --- they're crazy comfortable, versatile and chic, and Martha's the sweetest gal around."

Kinfolk - Volume 2!

Ahhh Kinfolk - Volume Two is here!! I am so excited. Like, REALLY excited. You guys should probably go check it out & then buy it. I can assure you I have already purchased my copy, wink*

This specific Volume holds a near and dear place in my heart for a few reasons. Most importantly, it brought a handful of incredible new friends into my life. I was invited to be apart of a small gathering for this issue and gladly accepted the invitation - the group involved was such a welcoming, kind-hearted, and inspiring mess of people. I am lucky to have spent a few days on the coast with them. So much care and love went into the trip and dinner - I don't think it could have turned out any better, truly.

I wanted to share a few "behind-the-scene" pictures I took with my phone over the duration of the weekend - check it out. If you would like to see the more legit version that was captured by the fabulous Laura Dart, go get the issue!! Hurry!!

Also, here a few of my favorites by Laura. This was my first trip to Oregon and let me tell you, I was blown away. These images don't do the place justice! Sigh...... ALSO, there is a video from the trip if you'd like to see everything in motion.

Alrighty - Round two of adding guys to the mix!! I am still so giddy about this whole addition :) I would like to introduce to you - Mr. Seth Putnam!! He is #2 out of the 3 guys I'll be featuring from the male fashion blog Midwestern Style. Seth tells stories for a living. Right now, it's mostly on the pages of magazines and newspapers up around Chicago. "I've spent a lot of the past year thinking about the sort of story that style and manners can tell about a person...and what I'd like mine to say about me."

Happy Friday guys. So, I love Instagram - a lot. It took me a while to start using it but as soon as I did - I definitely approved. Here are some of my favs from this week. I did some baking, got lots of firewood in preparation for cozy nights, went shopping - needless to say, it was a GOOD week. I hope you guys have a fabulous weekend. I plan on getting some Christmas shopping done AND GUESS WHAT ELSE? I am going to start packing*** Ahhhhhh!!!! Once you start throwing all your stuff in boxes - a move seems so much more REAL. La Mode Dallas

I am still a little giddy from receiving this in the mail yesterday. It showed up on my door step in the evening via a FedEx guy and I was soo confused as to why he just delivered me three copies of this Dallas based magazine. I flipped through and BAM - there was a 6 page spread on Emmadime : Knitted!! Turns out Dallas really loves the photographer I used for my look-book, Shaun Menary, and wanted to show off some of his work. ( He's sooo good huh? ) On top of showing his work, they were in full support of my shop and did such a wonderful write up on it!! It was so fun seeing the images and pieces printed and in my hands. Just thought I would share...

So we all still make Christmas Wish Lists right?? 'Cause I know I sure do - I literally write Dear Santa at the top and use red and green pens :) There are usually a few things on that list that I know i'll end up probably buying myself - for a few reasons : 1. I am impatient 2. I want to pick it out* The item I will probably end up doing that with this year is a record player and some new/old vinyl. I have gone back and forth for a while now - Do I want one? Nah, I don't want one....... It's official - I WANT ONE.

Right this second I am listening to She & Him's Christmas album - how much better would it sound if I had it on vinyl and was listening to it on a purdy record player!?? I mean, come on....

This weeks Lovely Lady is a new friend of mine and will be my roomie when I head out to LA!! Let me tell you, I couldn't be more excited about living with this awesome human being. She is HILARIOUS, super talented ( in multiple areas ), and just straight up nice - what else could a roommate ask for?? I have already blogged about her here & here!!

Marissa is currently working as a wedding and lifestyle photographer in LA and recently released an EP in Seattle. She can quote any episode of friends, drinks her whiskey on the rocks, and loves exploring little eateries around LA. When she grows up, she'd like to be an interior designer. Or a midwife. She's not sure yet.

"I love the bangles - I found them at an Indian flea market when I traveled there a few years back. They always finish every outfit and I love being able to tie my heritage into my wardrobe! (I don't eat spicy food, so it's the least I can do.)"

Our Paper Shop - Sneak Peek!!

Hey Guys, so Bre and I wanted to keep up the momentum of the shop's launch by giving you another sneak peek into what we have been working on. This is the time of year when you start looking for a 2012 calendar so we didn't want to miss out on that buzz!! Here is what OUR PAPER SHOP will have to offer in that area. We are launching the first week in January so if you like what you see - hang around till these puppies are available.

The larger calendar is our FIRST collaboration - We plan to do many, so get ready!! The photographer who took all of those lovely images is Laura Dart* She has an incredible eye and feel for the seasons so we KNEW should we be perfect to work with. I already have it framed and hanging by my desk :) THANKS Laura!!
